The issue of online sellers vs. brick-and-mortar camera shops is one that’s been discussed ad nauseum over the past several years, but Amazon just made a move that’s sure to be a game-changer. Last Thursday, Amazon announced same day delivery in several cities.
One of the big strengths of patronizing a local camera store has always been the ability to obtain the gear immediately without having to wait anywhere from a day to a week for the item to be shipped. With Amazon’s new same-day delivery service, buyers are able to take advantage of Amazon’s great camera and gear deals while obtaining the items in a very timely manner. If you know what you need and want it quickly and at a great price, the Amazon same day delivery service sounds like a great deal.
The same-day delivery is currently available in New York, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Las Vegas, and Seattle. The service will be coming soon to other cities… I’m hopeful that the Portland area (where I live) makes their list of speedy delivery areas.
Even with same-day delivery, local shops will still hold the advantage when it comes to previewing gear or asking questions. If Amazon’s same-day delivery were available in your area, would you use it?
