Here at Social Photo Talk I focus on showing photographers how to best use social technology for sharing and marketing photography. Most of the content that I write is aimed directly at photographers. It’s great that you’re here, but don’t get too focused only on photography information.
I like to mix things up and see what others are doing in different industries. As part of my research for launching the Social Photo Podcast, I listened not only to photography podcasts but also podcasts covering different subjects, such as Brandie Kajino’s podcast on home office organization. While I read a ton of photography blogs, I also see what Realtor Dale Chumbley is blogging about. While their content is usually interesting, I’m not just looking at content – I’m looking at how they’re presenting that content, in what form, and using what tools and techniques. Photography marketing is one game, but many of the same ideas are in play in other games… and seeing how smart people are using them can inspire me to try something new.
By watching what others are doing outside my usual space, I find that it’s easy to learn some new things without getting too caught up in the details as I sometimes do with photography subjects.
Keep an eye on the photography world, but also check out other areas. What non-photography resources do you use to keep your social content fresh?
