I recently came across a post called Social Networking: It’s All About Relationships. The post was on a blog by three self-described “law geeks.” They’re not professional social media consultants or anyone with a stake in social media as an industry… rather they’re simply practicing their craft (law), and using social media as a tool in that practice. A parallel could be drawn to a photographer using social media tools.
Social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and LinkedIn are a way to manage relationships with colleagues, clients, and industry professionals. Don’t always be asking about the profit potential from every social media tool. It’s hard to measure ROI on building meaningful relationships, even though time and time again it’s those relationships that lead to new business.
If you have a good reason why you don’t want to build and maintain relationships… please let me know. I’m curious…
