Cooliris Makes it Easier to Participate

cooliris-logo-300x300One of my favorite interfaces to browse Flickr and other photo gallery websites is Cooliris a Firefox extension that presents a very nice gallery-style view that allows for easy (and smooth-looking) browsing of photos. If you haven’t tried Cooliris, check it out. Until recently, it was hard to use their software if one wanted to participate on a site such as Flickr, since there was no way to leave a comment on a photo or mark it as a favorite from within Cooliris. The software also didn’t allow one to open a photo in a new browser tab (for the purpose of leaving a comment or favorite).

With a recent update to Cooliris, photos can now be opened into a new tab, which provides a great way for browsing Flickr. From someone’s photostream or your contacts page or any other Flickr gallery, activate Cooliris and meander through the photos. When one catches your eye and you’d like to leave a comment, open it in a new tab (Command+Click on the Mac, Ctrl+Click on a PC). After opening several such photos, it’s easy to work through them, leaving comments or favorites as desired. 1
